| Tóm tắt | Biomass thermochemical conversion for the production of fuels, chemicals, and combined heat and power has a number of realizable social, political, and economic benefits. In the biorefinery concept, it is possible to utilize biomass to generate a number of product and revenue streams that could revitalize rural economies, increase national security by reducing the dependence on foreign oil imports, and improve the global environment by reducing fossil fuel emissions, including greenhouse gases and oxides of nitrogen and sulfur. Biomass gasification is a developing technology that can be used to achieve an increased use of biomass by generating a product gas rich in H2 and CO. Integrated biomass gasification combined cycles can then be used to generate electricity in a gas turbine or a fuel cell at higher efficiencies than direct biomass combustion. Conditioning and upgrading the biomass gasification product gas can make it a suitable feed for methanol or Fischer-Tropsch liquid synthesis. Additional conditioning can produce an essentially pure hydrogen product gas for transportation, chemical production, or electricity generation in fuel cells. |
